We’re posting some old school cool on a Fashion Friday that showcases some unusual sartorial selections in the form of very cuffed overalls, what might be a captain’s hat, and what look like … wading boots, maybe? Whatever they are, Howard Ellsworth Seal, Jr. (1908-1983), brother of photographer Edward J. Shimer Seal (1896-1955), is doing his best to make them look good as he poses in these 1928 photographs, taken at Locust Knoll Farm in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania.
More images from the William H. Seal photograph collection (1971.336) can be found online by clicking here. The collection features over 300 photographs taken by the Seal family of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania during the first half of the 20th century.
Many of these images offer a glimpse into family and town life in Chadds Ford and Wilmington, Delaware during the 1920s and 1930s, featuring Seal family members, friends, neighbors, and employees. Other subjects include the 1939 World’s Fair in New York, the artists N.C. and Andrew Wyeth, and local bridges and roads.
This #WestinghouseWednesday, we’re sharing this portrait of Charles Kane, crane operator, which was taken by photographer Charles Yessel on February 2, 1920.
